Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju Friday said the central government was determined to take action against the perpetrators of violence against people from northeast in other parts of India.

"We are not going to tolerate this. Whenever such an incident occurs, our government has taken action and we are determined about it," he told media here.

Rijiju's comment came after two youths from Nagaland were assaulted in Gurgaon Wednesday night while a student from Manipur was beaten up by a group of people in Bangalore for not speaking in Kannada.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi condemned the attacks on youths from the northeast region and demanded stern action.

Such attacks "are most despicable and reprehensible. Such racial attacks prevent them (youths from northeast) from coming into the mainstream", Gogoi said.
