Displaying American soldiers with the Indian tricolour in the background on its posters to mark Martyrs' Day on Monday has landed the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) in an embarrassing situation.

March 23 is celebrated to mark the martyrdom day of Indian freedom struggle heroes Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

The posters were put up by the MC for an event at the Sector 33 Terraced Garden that was to be attended by Chandigarh Mayor Poonam Sharma and the Army commander of the Western Command, Lieutenant General K.J. Singh.

The posters showed three US soldiers in full combat gear with the US flag clearly visible on their upper arm.

Embarrassingly, the poster clearly mentioned 'Indian Army' at the top when the soldiers shown were American combat troops.

Mayor Poonam Sharma immediately passed the buck for the goof up on to junior officials of the MC. She claimed that Army officers had also not objected to the faux pas.
