China dominates Asian Youth Games medals tally

China ended the second Asian Youth Games (AYG) with 46 gold and 93 medals overall from the 122 events in 16 sports. South Korea was second with 25 gold medals, followed by Japan in a distant third place with seven gold medals.

China also grabbed 23 silver and 24 bronze Thailand and Chinese Taipei both won six gold medals to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

Of South Korea's gold tally, 16 came from swimming, of which Ko Miso accounted for five. South Korea also won 13 silver medals and 14 bronze for 52 in total.

Japan (7-5-6-18), Thailand (6-15-16-37) and Chinese Taipei (6-11-13-30) completed the top five.

 

Nineteen of the 45 NOCs went home with gold, while 29 NOCs won at least one medal of any colour.

The sports programme ended Friday night, leaving the closing ceremony Saturday night at which the AYG flag will be passed from Nanjing to the 2017 host, Hambantota of Sri Lanka.

India finished 10th with 14 medals (3-4-7-14).
