The families of 65 people who died or remain missing after a landslide in Shaanxi province, China, have signed a compensation agreement.

The local government and Shaanxi Wuzhou Mining Co. Ltd. will pay 600,000 yuan (about $94,000) to the families of each of the 65 people, reported Xinhua news agency.

Compensation has been given to 50 families so far, a rescue headquarters spokesperson said on Saturday.

The landslide hit the living quarters of the mining company's Shanyang county branch as well as three rural homes in the early hours of August 12.

Nine people have been confirmed dead and 56 others remain missing.
