China's People's Liberation Army Sunday started a special medical service to improve medical support methods during warfare.

The squad would also play an important role in non-combat military operations such as disaster rescue and relief, reported Xinhua citing China's state-run daily.

The 40-member squad comprised 37 officers majoring in medical care and three female soldiers majoring in nursing.

It was established Aug 1 and received training for two months.
