A 40-year-old Chinese national was caught with 60 kg sandalwood at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, said a CISF official Tuesday. The passenger was later released after a fine but the sandalwood was seized by the customs.
Mingxing was caught when he was to board a Spicejet flight scheduled to departure around 2 p.m. Sunday for Guangzhou in China.
"The passenger was caught at gate number 5 during frisking on the basis of suspicious activities," said Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson Hemendra Singh.
"During checking of his baggage, CISF officials recovered 60 kg sandalwood. The customs was immediately informed and the passenger along with the material was handed over to them," said Singh.
The custom official seized the sandalwood and released Mingxing after imposing a fine of Rs. 30,000.
The passenger had come to India on a tourist visa.
