After India, Samsung's dominance challenged in China as well

Xiaomi overtakes Samsung in the Chinese smartphone market

IANS New Delhi
Handset maker Xiaomi has overtaken Korean giant Samsung as the top-selling smarphone brand in China, according to a research report.

Xiaomi sold 1.5 crore smartphones in China in the second quarter of 2014 while Samsung could manage to sell only 1.32 crore phones.

Xiaomi holds a 14% market share in the world's biggest cellphone market.

Lenovo is placed close behind Samsung, and sold 1.3 crore phones. It has a 12% market share in China.

With its low cost handsets loaded with impressive specifications, Xiaomi will only make further inroads into the Chinese and the price sensitive Indian market.

Samsung suffered a setback in the Indian market too, with home-grown Micromax elbowing out the Korean company to become the firm selling the highest number of handsets in the country.

In India, Xiaomi was launched this year and has made a splash with its Mi3 phone.
