Megastar Chiranjeevi on Tuesday met and congratulated veteran filmmaker K. Viswanath for being conferred the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the country's highest award in cinema.
Chiranjeevi had worked with Viswanath in three Telugu films: "Subhaleka", "Swayam Krushi" and "Apadbandhavudu".
"Chiranjeevi Sir was very happy when he learnt about this rare honour to Viswanath. He met him today and congratulated him. They spent close to an hour talking," a source close to Chiranjeevi told IANS.
For his performance in "Subhaleka", which raised pertinent questions about dowry system, Chiranjeevi won the Best Actor Filmfare award.
Winner of multiple National Awards, Viswanath has directed 50 films, known for their strong content, endearing narrative, honest handling and cultural authenticity.
Viswanath's National award winning drama "Swati Mutyam" (The White Pearl) was India's official entry to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category in 1987.
