The CISF has taken over the security of the Bengaluru centre of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) - the issuing authority for Aadhaar - in view of terrorist threats, an official said on Friday.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was given the responsibility on Tuesday and soon after its 80 armed commandos were deputed in the round the clock security job at the UIDAI's Bengaluru complex in Kodigehalli area where the force has been providing temporary protection since December 2014.

With this, a total of 339 units are now under CISF security.

"Security of the UIDIA data centre is of utmost importance as the establishment stores very sensitive and confidential biometric and personal information of the residents of India," CISF Assistant Inspector General Hemendra Singh told IANS.

He said that the CISF was given the responsibility as Bengaluru had always under constant threat from anti-national elements because of its importance as a hub of iconic electronic and IT centres of the country.

"After taking over security of UIDAI Bengaluru by CISF under its umbrella, the force would take over the security of UIDAI Manesar (Gurugram) very soon."

While the task has now been taken over by a 80-member team led by a Deputy Commandant rank officer, the rest of the strength will join the workforce soon, he said.

UIDAI, an attachment office under Planning Commission of India, was created in 2006 to develop and implement the necessary institutional, technical and legal infrastructure to issue unique identity numbers of Indian residents that is popularly known as Aadhaar.
