Clashes erupted between security forces and protesters in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian town on Friday in which around a dozen civilians were injured.

Police sources said youths resorted to heavy stone pelting at the security forces, forcing them to fire tear smoke and pellets.

The protests were held against the killing of six persons, including two militants and four civilians, in Pahnoo area of Shopian district on Sunday.

Reports reaching here said that around a dozen protesters were injured in the clashes. A young man who sustained serious injuries was referred to a Srinagar hospital.

Clashes between youths and security forces also occurred in the old city Nowhatta area of Srinagar after the congregational Friday prayers.

Heavy deployment of security forces in the area helped bring the protests under control.
