In a bid to offer world class treatment for sports-related injuries, a city hospital Wednesday launched its sports injury clinic.
Unveiled at BLK Super Speciality Hospital, the clinic, inaugurated by yesteryear's star athlete Milkha Singh, will offer treatment of sports injuries, sports physiotherapy and sports nutrition.
"The clinic will offer advice, diagnosis and treatment for sports-related problems. The centre will also offer expert advice on sports nutrition and sports psychology. These areas are much neglected in our country.
"An all-round approach can enhance player's performance tremendously," said Yash Gulati, director, BLK centre for orthopaedics, joint reconstruction and orthopaedic spine.
Milkha Singh, while reflecting on his times, said the world of sports has today become extremely competitive, and to produce sports geniuses good medical facilities are needed.
"Way back in 1980s, when I once strained a muscle in my leg, I was extremely scared that it would hamper my career and I would never be able to run. We did not have such facilities then. I am glad that such medical facilities are available for sportspersons these days," Singh told IANS.
