Acclaimed cinestar George Clooney was Sunday night honoured with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, presented annually to an individual who's made "an incredible impact on the world of entertainment".

Looking suave in a tuxedo, Clooney delivered a fitting speech while accepting the award. His eyes were set on his wife and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who made a style statement in a black ensemble.

Clooney, a four-time Golden Globe winner, is also a two-time Oscar winner. During his career, he has appeared in over 40 films and TV shows. He attained star status with the 1990s TV drama "ER" before moving on to pursue a career in films.

The 53-year-old has directed five features, including "Good Night and Good Luck," "The Ides of March" and "The Monuments Men".

Previous recipients of this lifetime achievement honour include icons like Woody Allen and Jodie Foster.

The 72nd Golden Globe awards ceremony was held at The Beverly Hilton hotel here Sunday night.
