Public sector undertaking Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has fulfilled all requirements to earn a license from French Gaztransport et Technigaz (GTT) to build LNG ships for any client in the world, said an official statement on Monday.
"This achievement on the part of CSL is a major step towards the 'Make in India' initiative and will take ship building in India to a new height," said Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari in the statement.
CSL successfully demonstrated GTT's patented membrane containment system technology Mark-III Flex Mock-Up be certified by the leading French company and also become the first Indian shipyard to obtain the license.
GTT CEO Philippe Berterottiere gave the license to CSL CMD K. Subramaniam on Monday also in the presence of Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the statement added.
