Night temperatures throughout the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region remained several notches below the freezing point on Saturday as the Met department said rain and snowfall was likely in Jammu and Kashmir on January 4 and 5.
The lowest minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded minus 10.0 degrees Celsius in the Kargil town and minus 9.2 degrees in Leh town, the weather office said.
"Srinagar recorded minus 3.8 degrees Celsius as minimum temperature, Pahalgam minus 5.3 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg minus 5.8 degrees Celsius and Kupwara town recorded minus three degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature on Saturday."
In the Jammu region, the minimum temperature was recorded at six degrees Celsius in Jammu city, 7.5 degrees Celsius in Katra, three degrees Celsius in Batote, Bannihal recorded minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, minus 0.5 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah and a minimum temperature of 2.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Udhampur.
"We are expecting light rain and snowfall on January 4 and 5 due to a western disturbance (WD) likely to be active over the state during this period," an official of the local Met department said.
