A comic book and a documentary film that educates children on how to avoid sexual abuse was released here Friday by the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR).

Copies of the book and the film will be distributed in more than 450 schools, institutions and children clubs.

Titled "Thank You Ma", the documentary film and the comic talk about the places where child abuse cases often happen, how children are lured by people who are known to them, difference between a right and a wrong touch, and whom to report such cases.

"This will go a long way in creating awareness about this sensitive issue," said DCPCR chairman Arun Mathur.

"This will not only entertain them, but will also educate them on how to protect themselves and approach the competent authority for support," he added.

The DCPCR further said that though the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 will prove to be an effective deterrent, the need of the hour is to empower children and create a safe environment for them through active participation of all stakeholders including families and the society.

Citing a report submitted by Delhi Police to the commission, the DCPCR said that close to 400 children were raped between Jan 1 and April 7 in the capital this year.
