Historians are committed to writing about common people and the cause of writing scientific and secular history, Indian History Congress general president K.M. Shrimali said here on Friday.
His statement followed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's apprehensions on attempts to distort history.
"We are committed to the cause of scientific and secular history. The target of our history writing nowadays is the common people. We are not writing histories of kings and queens and administrators and so on and so forth. We are committed to write the history of the common people," Shrimali said here at the 78th Indian History Congress.
He said the common people are the real "history makers."
"I can assure you that we fully share your apprehensions about the kind of history that some people are trying to thrust on us without being competent enough to write about history ...," he told Banerjee.
