The advertising industry watchdog, the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) said on Thursday it has upheld complaints against 90 advertisements in categories of education, healthcare, food and beverages out of 156 in March for either misleading consumers or not able to substantiate their claim.

"Out of 90 advertisements against which complaints were upheld, 32 belonged to the education category, 30 in the healthcare and personal care category, followed by 10 in the food and beverages category and 18 advertisements from other categories," the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) said in a statement.

The CCC found claims in health care and personal care product or service advertisements of 30 advertisers to be either misleading or false or not adequately/scientifically substantiated and hence violating ASCI's Code, it said.

It said some of the health care products or services advertisements also contravened provisions of the law, while in education category, claims in the advertisements by 32 different advertisers were not substantiated and violated the council's guidelines.
