The Congress Wednesday defended Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who is involved in a row over solar panels, saying he has a "spotless reputation".
"Chandy is not a novice or a newcomer to politics. He has a spotless reputation," Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury told reporters when asked about the Kerala opposition's demand for Chandy's resignation.
"There is a SIT (Special Investigation Team) investigation being carried out in this matter, which has been constituted by the state government. Let the facts come out. To condemn someone or to talk derogatorily of someone who has had a spotless record for so many years ... will be premature for us to do that and it is also very defeating for a man who remains spotless without anyone being able to substantiate the kind of allegations that are being made," she said.
Congress general secretary Ajay Maken too said there was no need for Chandy's resignation.
