The Election Commission has extended, from June 30 to December 31, the deadline for the Congress to hold the organisational polls, said party leaders on Monday.
The Congress, which was earlier given an ultimatum by the Election Commission to complete its organisational polls by June-end, had requested to the panel that this could only be done by December 2017.
The EC is believed to have told the Congress that there will be no further extensions.
"Yes, the Election Commission has extended the deadline in holding organisational polls till December this year," said Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi.
Earlier, Congress was believed to have questioned the deadline fixed by EC and also said that it is against the resolution of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
