Congress invites proposals for Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award

The Congress on Wednesday invited proposals for the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, which is given for outstanding contribution to promoting communal harmony and fighting against terrorism and violence.

The award is given on former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's birthday, August 20. The award carries a citation and cash award of Rs.10 lakh, which is given either to individuals or institutions.

The last date for receiving the proposals is July 7.

"The 23rd award for the year 2014 and 2015 would be in recognition to outstanding contribution to the cause of National Sadbhavana either by distinguished individuals or associations etc. Accordingly, the chairman of the advisory committee, Dr Karan Singh (MP, Rajya Sabha) invites proposals for the award latest by July 7, 2016 in the prescribed proforma which may be obtained from AICC Trust Office, 24 Akbar Road," said Motilal Vora, member-secretary, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award Advisory Committee.

 

Among the recipients of the award are Mother Teresa, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Mohammed Yunus, Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt, among others.
