Congress legislator in Telangana Ramreddy Venkatreddy died here on Friday following brief illness, his family said. He was 72.
Ramreddy, who represented Paleru constituency of Khammam district, breathed his last at KIMS Hospital here.
According to the legislator's family members, he was hospitalised for last few days for treatment of respiratory disease and his condition deteriorated Friday.
He entered politics in 1967 and was elected as 'sarpanch' of his native village Patalingala in Khammam district.
He was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh assembly in 1996 from Sujatanagar constituency and re-elected in 1999 and 2004.
In 2009, Ramreddy was elected to the assembly from Paleru and served as a minister in the cabinets of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, K. Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy till 2014.
In separate state of Telangana, Ramreddy was elected from the same constituency in 2014 elections. He was currently serving as chairman of Public Accounts Committee.
