The Congress has declared candidates for two of the four assembly constituencies in Rajasthan where by-elections are slated to be held Sep 13.

"The party has fielded Ramnarayan Gurjar from Nasirabad in Ajmer district and Bhajanlal Jatav from Weir constituency in Bharatpur district," said state partty spokesman Archana Sharma.

The candidates for the other two constituencies - Surajgarh seat in Jhunjhunu district and Kota South seat in Kota district - are to be declared soon, a party official said.

Filing of nominations had started on Aug 20, the last date of nomination is Aug 27 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is Aug 30. The counting is to be held on Sep 16.

The state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which had won all these four seats in last year's assembly poll, is yet to declare its candidates for the by-polls.

These four seats became vacant as sitting BJP legislators Sanwar Lal Jat (Nasirabad), Om Birla (Kota South), Santosh Ahlawat (Surajgarh) and Bahadur Singh Koli (Weir) was elected to the Lok Sabha from Ajmer, Kota, Jhunjhunu and Bharatpur Lok Sabha constituencies respectively.

In 2013 assembly elections, the Congress had suffered one of its worst defeats in history by winning only 21 constituencies of the state's 200 assembly seats. The BJP had won 163 seats.
