In a complaint to the electoral authorities on Wednesday, a Goa Congress Member of Parliament has objected to the symbol of 'lotus' for the forthcoming BRICS Summit.

Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has alleged that the BJP is politicising the two-day summit.

Speaking to reporters, after filing his complaint with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Goa, Naik said: "The BRICS symbol is being used for electoral purposes, as the state is expected to go to polls early in 2017."

"BJP is saffronising the BRICS by using lotus as a logo. Lotus is also the symbol of the BJP," Naik said after handing over his complaint to the Additional Chief Electoral officer Narayan Navti.

"Now the BJP's lotus symbol must be frozen," Naik demanded.

The 8th BRICS Summit is scheduled for September 15-16 in Goa.
