The Congress on Monday announced that former Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will probe a recent clash between party workers in the capital, in which the party's Haryana unit chief Ashok Tanwar was injured.

The October 6 clash took place between the supporters of Tanwar and those of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Bhairon Mandir near Jantar Mantar.

The party activists had assembled at Bhairon Mandir to welcome Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as his nearly month-long 'Kisan Yatra' reached the capital after traversing through poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

While Tomar was hospitalised after the clash, over a dozen party workers also sustained injuries.

"Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided that former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will conduct an inquiry into the October 6 incident at Bhairon Mandir where workers and leaders had assembled to welcome Rahul Gandhi," Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi said in a statement.
