Four Congress supporters were detained for protesting and creating a ruckus outside Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda's residence here Tuesday against the railway fare hike.

"The protest is over. Four people have been detained and we are in a process to register a case against those who created ruckus outside the minister's house," additional commissioner of police Jatin Narwal told IANS.

The supporters, including women, gathered outside Gowda's residence in Tyagraj Marg in Lutyens Delhi around 3 p.m. and staged the protest.

"Some of the protesters fled from the spot when police tried to detain them. We are now monitoring CCTV footage to identify the Congress supporters against whom the FIR will be registered," said Narwal.

The protestors had stopped Gowda's vehicle outside his house.

Congress leader Mukesh Sharma removed the minister's name plate and stamped on it.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Arvinder Singh Lovely, who was with the protestors, said the protest should be peaceful.

A few minutes after the protest, adequate police force, including women constables, was deployed outside the residence of the railway minister.
