The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is likely to meet here on June 6 to discuss the current political situation and organisational issues, said party sources.

Party sources said that the meeting is expected to ratify the schedule for organisational polls which culminate with election of Congress President.

The party also has to take a call if Vice President Rahul Gandhi should be elevated the party chief as culmination of organisational election process. The new party chief is expected to be elected by October 15.

There have been occasional demands from party leaders that Rahul Gandhi should take charge of the party from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who became party president in 1998 and is now the longest serving chief of the Congress.

Apart from organisational matters, the CWC, the highest decision-making body of the Congress, is also expected to discuss the current political issues. Party's preparations for elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are also expected to come up for discussion. Election in the two states are expected to take place at the end of this year.
