A police official shot at a waiter in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city, when he was asked not to drink liquor in the restaurant premises since the eatery did not have a permit.

The victim Inderjeet (33) was rushed to a hospital where he was stated to be in critical condition.

Kanpur's Director General of Police R.K. Chaturvedi told IANS that the incident took place Thursday at Neelam hotel in Collectorganj area.

Sub-inspector Anil Sisodiya, of the 2013 batch of UP Police Service, went to the hotel with some of his friends and after ordering dinner, began to drink liquor. At this, the waiter told the cop that drinking was not allowed at the eatery.

Incensed at this, the sub-inspector first hurled abuses at the waiter and then whipped out his service revolver and fired three bullets at the waiter severely injuring him.

DIG Chaturvedi said departmental action has been initiated against Sisodiya, who has been arrested and charged with attempt to murder.
