New Delhi, April 24 (IANS) The father of a five-year-old rape victim in Delhi has identified a policeman who allegedly tried to bribe the family to not register a case, official sources said Wednesday.

Police sources said the father of the East Delhi girl identified the policeman who allegedly offered a bribe of Rs.2,000 to the family for not registering a first information report (FIR) in the case. They did not reveal the identity of the suspect.

A relative of the victim told IANS that the girl's father identified the culprit from 13 photographs of policemen shown to him. The photos were of policemen from constable to inspector rank.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said that the police official who allegedly offered the bribe could not be identified because the victim's father was not available for the identification process.

The five-year-old girl was abducted April 15, kept hostage for two days and sexually assaulted and brutalised in a room in which the attackers lived on the ground floor of a building in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar. The girl's family stays in the same building.

The girl was rescued when members of her family heard her screams April 17. She is now being treated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
