The Delhi High Court Wednesday asked police to protect a run-away couple who married against their parents' wishes and were apprehending threats from the woman's family.
The two petitioners are currently living in Delhi and the woman's family lives in Haryana's Faridabad city, close to the national capital.
Justice Sunita Gupta also issued notice to the station house officer of Faridabad Police Station and sought a response by Aug 23.
The couple approached the court for protection from the woman's family members, who allegedly threatened the couple.
The plea said the two fell in love with each other and they tried to convince their parents for the marriage, but the woman's family did not agree.
The two lovers then ran away from their homes July 15 and married in a temple, the plea said.
The couple, both aged 21, informed their parents on phone about their marriage, but the woman's family started threatening her that they would kill her, her lover and his family, the petition said.
