Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Hariom Yadav was on Monday sent to jail after he surrendered before a court in a criminal case of 2015 where he is accused of a murderous attack on a person, police said.
Yadav is a sitting MLA from Sirsaganj and the police had been on his lookout for long in a case lodged in 2015. He applied for bail soon after appearing before the ADJ Ist's court but was denied interim bail after which he was sent to prison.
Yadav's son Vijay Pratap is also a co-accused in the case but he is still at large.
Soon after the court directed the police to take him to jail, the lawmaker accused the police of working under pressure of the Yogi Adityanath government and alleged that the charges against him were made up and false.
The BJP government, he added, was out to prevent his son Vijay Pratap from contesting a local bodies' poll and had hence launched the witch hunt.
