The inner and middle circles of the Connaught Place in central Delhi will be made traffic free for three months from February, officials said on Thursday.
The decision was taken at a review meeting held by Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu where plans to turn New Delhi Development Council (NDMC) area into a smart city were discussed.
The pedestrianisation of the Connaught Place will be done on pilot basis under Central government's Smart City project.
Welcoming the move, Delhi Culture and Water Minister Kapil Mishra said: "Inner circle of CP (Connaught Place) to be traffic free for three months. Let's give it a try Delhi."
"Delhi needed it for a long time now. I had suggested this months ago," Mishra told IANS.
