Tata Chemicals on Friday said its Haldia plant in West Bengal's East Midnapore district resumed operations after the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) permitted the company to reopen the plant.

In March, the CPCB had ordered the chemical major to shut down its Haldia plant operations for alleged non-compliance of the prescribed norm of liquid affluent discharge.

".... we wish to now inform the Exchanges that the company has received letter dated July 6, 2017, from CPCB revoking their earlier order and permitting the company to resume the operations at Haldia plant," it said in a regulatory filing.

The fertiliser manufacturer resumed operations at Haldia from Friday.

CPCB's previous order to shut down plant operations was issed under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

According to the company, the earlier order was based on the analysis of samples drawn on January 9, 2017, by CPCB which had alleged the company had breached the prescribed norms for discharge of effluents.
