Tripura's ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist on Sunday renominated Jharna Das Baidya as its candidate for the March 21 Rajya Sabha polls.
The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat comes as Baidya's six year term ends on April 2.
"Jharna Das Baidya's name was selected unanimously for the Rajya Sabha elections in the CPI-M state committee meeting today (Sunday)," CPI-M state committee member Haripada Das told reporters after the meeting.
The CPI-M candidate's win in the polls are almost certain as the strength of the ruling Left Front in the 60-member house is 50. Main opposition Congress has 10 members.
Before being elected to upper house of parliament, Baidya had served as the chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board. The 53-year-old woman leader belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.
