A 23-year-old criminal wanted in Haryana and Rajasthan in nearly 18 cases, including gang rape, and carrying a bounty of Rs.50,000 on his head, was arrested here by the crime branch, police said on Saturday.

Mufeed alias Mufi alias Jaida, a resident of Kharkhari village in Mewat district of Haryana, was arrested by crime branch (unit 9) of Gurgaon police on Saturday.

At least 17 FIRs had been registered against the accused in Gurgaon, Rohtak and Mewat districts.

He had been involved in looting luxury cars and trucks at gun point, firing at cops on various occasions and also gang raping a woman for several days.

"He was arrested through a tip off. He will be produced before the court on Sunday," a senior police officer said.

One country-made pistol was recovered from his possession.

Mufeed, one of the most important members of 28-year-old Chaman's gang, managed to escape after a police encounter near Manesar in March this year.

Chaman was arrested after the Manesar gun-fight. He has over 30 cases registered against him in Haryana and Rajasthan.

Mufeed, along with his other accomplices, attacked Rajasthan police in May 2014 and helped Chaman escape from their custody.
