Croatian Niko Kovac was on Tuesday named as the head coach of German football club Eintracht Frankfurt, succeeding Armin Veh.

Kovac signed until July 30, 2017, but the contract will only be valid as long as the club remains in the Bundesliga, and will be cancelled if the team falls into the second division, reports Efe.

Club president Heribert Bruchhagen said that Kovac's goal should be to mobilise the forces of the team and ensure it stays in the first division, adding that he is convinced it will happen.

Kovac previously coached Croatian national team and qualified it to the last World Cup in Brazil, but he had to leave his post in September 2015 for poor results in the qualifying matches for Euro.

Kovac played for 15 years in the Bundesliga, in the ranks of Hertha, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburg and Bayern Munich.
