Cruz Azul, coached by Portuguese Pedro Caixinha, went back to its winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Atlas to secure its leadership position in the Apertura 2018 football tournament here.
Azul enjoyed dominance right from the start on Saturday and Adrian Aldrete opened the scoring for them in the 18th minute, aided by a defensive error from Atlas, reports Efe.
After their first defeat in the tournament last week to Necaxa, Azul looked a different team this time as they kept up the pressure and Milton Caraglio extended the lead in the 57th minute.
Azul now have seven wins from 10 games, with two draws and a loss, giving them 23 points, three more than second placed Club America.
In another match in the tournament, Tijuana defeated Pachuca 1-0, bringing an end to its six-match undefeated run.
The only goal of the match from Erick Torres in the second half helped Tijuana jump to seventh place with 15 points, while Pachuca was 13th with 12 points.--IANS
