Cruzeiro moved to the top of the Campeonato Brasileiro football standings with a 4-1 victory over Atletico Mineiro.
Ricardo Goulart scored twice at the Mineirao stadium Sunday while Everton Ribeiro and Nilton were also on the scoresheet for the 'Raposa', reports Xinhua.
Alecsandro scored the only goal of the match for Atletico.
Cruzeiro coach Marcelo Oliveira lavished praise on his players and vowed the squad would be even stronger with the impending addition of former Real Madrid midfileder Julio Baptista.
"We are planning to bring further reinforcements and there will be good players who might find themselves out of the team," Oliveira said.
"But we are in several competitions. It's a long season and there are going to be opportunities for everybody. That's why every player in this squad is important."
In other matches Sunday Corinthians drew 0-0 with Sao Paulo, Gremio beat Fluminense 2-0, Nautico defeated Internacional 3-0, Flamengo drew 1-1 with Botafogo, Bahia overcame Goias 2-1 and Coritiba defeated Vitoria 1-1.
