A Cuban doctor fighting the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone has been infected with the disease, Cuba's health ministry said Wednesday.
Doctor Felix Baez Sarria, 43, a specialist sent to Sierra Leone to fight Ebola, displayed fever symptoms Sunday. He tested positive for Ebola one day later and is being treated by a team of British professionals, Xinhua reorted citing the statement.
The doctor, however, is in stable condition, the ministry said.
The World Health Organization has proposed Sarria be transferred to Geneva for treatment.
In early October, Cuba sent its first brigade of 165 doctors and male nurses to combat Ebola in Sierra Leone. Later the country dispatched other 53 to Liberia and 38 to Guinea.
