The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Monday decided to seek a year's time from the Election Commission (EC) to conduct the organisational polls of the party.
Since December was the last date, we have decided to ask for an extension from the Election Commission, said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.
"We believe that organisational polls should be held in compliance with the party constitution. It is not possible to hold the elections by December. That's why, the CWC has decided to urge EC to extend the time for a year," Surjewala said.
"The process of holding organisational polls is currently on, and that process will not take even a year. Maybe, it will be completed before a year," he added.
Surjewala said: "The only requirement is to follow our constitution, and it permits us to seek such an extension."
