The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued notice to Delhi Police over its inaction in the suicide of a 21-year-old girl who allegedly killed herself due to threats and harassment by her boyfriend.

"The DCW has taken suo-moto cognisance on news reports regarding the suicide of a 21-year-old girl on Sunday allegedly due to threats and harassment by her boyfriend," the DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said in her notice to Deputy Commissioner Jatin Narwal.

"It is stated in the report that the girl had approached police several times to report the threats and harassment faced by her but no action was taken by the police," Maliwal said.

She further wrote that the allegations of the girl are extremely serious and asked the police for their reasons of inaction.

"Please provide reasons for police inaction on initial complaints of the girl. Please provide copies of all complaints along with action taken report on each," the notice said.
