Newly-appointed Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay Sunday said the decision to stake a claim to forming government in Delhi will be taken only after consulting party members and senior leaders.

"The decision regarding government formation in Delhi will be taken after talking to all the legislators, MPs and party leaders," Upadhyay told IANS.

"I will comment on the issue of government formation once the consultations are over," he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Delhi unit is a divided house over government formation in the capital which has been under president's rule since February this year after Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister.

No party in the capital, where the assembly is under suspended animation, has staked claim so far.

With three BJP legislators being elected to the Lok Sabha, the party's strength in the 70-member house has come down to 28 from the earlier 31. A lone Akali Dal legislator is on its side.

The Congress has eight legislators in the assembly.

The central rule can be extended by six more months with parliament's approval unless assembly elections are held earlier.
