World No.5 Juan Martin del Potro booked his place in the final of the Sydney International tennis tournament beating Russian Dmitry Tursunov here Friday.

The Argentinean needed only 64 minutes to claim a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tursunov.

He becomes the first top seed to reach the final since 2005 when Australian Lleyton Hewitt defeated Ivo Minar to win the title.

Del Potro will meet defending champion Bernard Tomic in the Sydney final Saturday. The Australian rallied to beat Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

"I think I played the best match of the week," Del Potro told reporters.

"I played great with my forehands and serves. I didn't make easy errors."
