A Nagaland Police constable posted at an All India Radio (AIR) office here on Monday shot and wounded a Delhi Police constable who crashed his car into the office gate during a joy ride.

Constable Ankit Kumar, in his 30s, was shot at by the guard -- a constable with Nagaland Police -- around 3 a.m. at the AIR office near Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College in Delhi University.

Police said Ankit Kumar lost control over the car and rammed it into the gates of the Akashwani Bhavan office, startling the Nagaland constable who opened fire assuming it was a terror attack.

"The impact of Ankit Kumar's crash was such that the car entered the premises through the locked gate. When he tried to reverse his car, he was shot at by the guard," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told IANS.

Ankit Kumar received a bullet on the left side of his chest and was rushed to the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital, where he was said to be out of danger.

He was posted with a Delhi Armed Police batallion and was on a joyride with three of his friends in his Maruti Swift car. He had left home after having a few drinks, police said.

A case of negligent driving has been filed against Ankit Kumar.
