A Delhi policeman's teenaged daughter and his wife died here after consuming poison over suspected depression linked to the girl's poor result in the Class 12 board exam, police said Thursday.
Shivani, whose result was declared Monday, and her mother Kamlesh swallowed poison Wednesday night in their house in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar when her father assistant sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar was away, police said.
Shivani's minor brother who also consumed the poison is battling for life in hospital, police said. No suicide note was recovered.
"First, Shivani and her brother consumed poison and then their mother," said a police officer.
A neighbour spotted them lying on the floor and informed Pradeep Kumar, police said.
The victims were taken to hospital where Shivani and Kamlesh died, police said.
According a neighbour, the family members were depressed over the girl's poor show in her Class 12 exam.
