A special court here on Friday sent Chhattisgarh's Indian Administrative Service officer B.L. Agrawal and his brother-in-law Anand Agrawal to 14-day judicial custody in a corruption case.

CBI Special Judge Virender Kumar Goyal remanded the two in judicial custody after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said they were not required for further custodial interrogation.

The court, however, allowed the CBI to quiz Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Syed Burhanuddin, based in Hyderabad, till March 6.

The senior IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh government, B.L. Agrawal, was arrested by the CBI on February 21 on charge of trying to "settle" a case being probed by the central agency against him.

The IAS officer and Anand Agrawal were arrested from Raipur while the alleged middleman, Bhagwan Singh, was arrested from New Delhi. Burhanuddin was arrested on February 23.

The other accused were arrested on the charge of helping B.L. Agrawal to "settle" the case.

The CBI registered an FIR on February 18 against the accused officer, Bhagwan Singh, Burhanuddin and others on the charge of criminal conspiracy and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI claimed the IAS officer had agreed to pay Rs 1.5 crore to Burhanuddin as gratification for helping him in a pending case.

The probe agency alleged that B.L. Agrawal first approached Bhagwan Singh on the issue, who arranged for his meeting with Burhanuddin on February 11 in Delhi.

Burhanuddin allegedly told the IAS officer that he works in the Prime Minister's Office in Delhi and will easily get the matter settled in his favour in lieu of Rs 1.5 crore.

Burhanuddin also allegedly assured B.L. Agrawal that he will get the case transferred from the CBI to the Chhattisgarh Economic Offences Wing.
