A court here on Tuesday issued summons to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa in a defamation case filed by Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shefali Barnala Tandon asked Sirsa to appear before it on January 20, 2018.
On May 19, Jain filed two criminal defamation complaints against sacked Minister Kapil Mishra and Sirsa on charge of defaming him by levelling corruption charges against him.
In the complaint against Sirsa, Jain said the BJP MLA on May 9 made "libellous" statements by levelling corruption allegations against him.
Making a statement on the basis of "hearsay" without any proof or supporting evidence was not only unbecoming of an MLA but also a crime, the Aam Aadmi Party leader said in his complaint.
"Such statements, without any basis, have been put in the public domain to damage the reputation of the complainant. It has become a habit with the accused to make and circulate such falsehoods," Jain added.
