The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) on Thursday awarded all the nine metro stations on the Badarpur-Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) section of the Delhi Metro the highest rating.
"The section has been awarded the highest rating (platinum) for adherence to green building norms by IGBC, which has devised a rating mechanism for metro stations and buildings on a scale of platinum, gold and silver for following the green building specifications," said Anuj Dayal, executive director of corporate communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The award was given on Thursday to DMRC managing director Mangu Singh by P.C. Jain, chairperson of IGBC.
The metro stations in Faridabad are equipped with a host of eco-friendly features like water fixtures installed at the stations being 30 percent more efficient than the baseline of IGBC's rating system.
Lifts and escalators are designed to consume lesser energy than the conventional lifts and escalators installed elsewhere. There are energy efficient air-conditioning and lighting arrangements and all stations utilise solar energy.
