The Delhi government on Friday approved a project for a sports facility and separate hostels for boys and girls, costing Rs 77.62 crore.
The decision for the project, which will be ready in a year, was approved by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) headed by Finance Minister Manish Sisodia.
The gymnasium will be built at GP Block of Pitampura in north Delhi across 11,128 metre square.
"Total estimated cost involved in this project is around Rs 77.62 crore and development work will be carried out by the DTTDC in a phased manner. The work is expected to be completed within 24 months.
"This project will cater to swimming and gymnastics training needs of students and will also be utilized as competition venue for prestigious events.
"This facility will have an all-weather swimming pool on the ground floor. There will be a well-equipped gymnasium hall above the swimming pool on the first floor," the government said in a statement.

The project will include a seven-storey and a five-storey hostel for boys and girls, respectively. The hostels will have a combined capacity to accommodate 412 students.
"Delhi has topped the medal tally in the National School Games in the year 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. This year also Delhi has grabbed first position in National School Games having won 478 Gold medals, 294 Silver and 265 Bronze (Total 1037 medals) till date.
"The initiatives like Pitampura Sports Hostel taken by Delhi Government will not only consolidate but will surely improve the excellent performance of Delhi school students at every level," the government said.
