The Delhi government Monday decided to institute a Journalist Welfare Scheme to provide financial help to state government-accredited scribes in times of distress.
The decision was taken after repeated demands from journalists that a welfare fund be set up for them.
Under the scheme, a maximum of Rs.3 lakh will be provided to a family in extreme hardship on account of the death of a journalist, or a maximum of Rs.2 lakh in case of permanent disability, rendering the journalist incapable of earning a livelihood.
There will also be a provision to provide a maximum of Rs.1 lakh in case of any other exigency or dire need.
