The Delhi government Wednesday approved the proposal to hike the annual cash reward given to sportspersons belonging to the state.

The government has increased the annual outlay for the reward from Rs.6 crore to Rs.10 crore. The proposal for the hike was put forward by the education ministry.

"The reason for this hike is that during the last few years, several sportspersons from Delhi have performed well in various international and national tournaments. The upward increase in cash incentive will boost the morale of sportspersons in the capital," said the official statement.

The ministry has also prepared a list of 27 sportspersons, including wrestler Sushil Kumar, cricketers Unmukt Chand and Vikas Mishra, chess grandmasters Parimarjan Negi and Sahej Grover, international chess master Tania Sachdev, international shooter Ranjan Sodhi, tennis player Yuki Bhambri and table tennis player Neha Aggarwal for the reward.
